Lip Filler Aftercare: How to Care for Your Lips After Injections
Lip filler is one of our favorite treatments for enhancing natural beauty — soft volume, balanced shape, and hydrated, youthful lips. But just as important as the treatment itself is what happens after your appointment.
Proper post-injection care helps minimize swelling and bruising, supports optimal healing, and ensures your results settle beautifully over time. Below, we’re breaking down exactly how to care for your lips in the days and weeks following your treatment at Odara Medical Spa.
The First 24 Hours: Protect & Support Healing
The first day after your lip injections is all about minimizing inflammation and giving your body the best environment to heal.
For the first 24 hours, we recommend:
Avoid alcohol, as it can thin the blood and increase bruising
Skip strenuous workouts and activities that elevate your heart rate
Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood-thinning medications unless otherwise directed
Do not apply makeup or lip gloss to the lips (a tinted mineral SPF is perfectly fine)
Stay well hydrated — hydration helps the filler integrate smoothly into your tissue
You may notice redness, swelling, tenderness, or even small lumps or unevenness. This is completely normal and expected during the early healing phase.
The First Two Weeks: Let Your Filler Settle
Your filler continues to soften and integrate into your lips over the next 2–4 weeks, which is why gentle care during this window is essential.
For the first two weeks, please avoid:
Facials, chemical peels, dental work, or face-down massages
Sleeping on your face
Kissing, puckering, or using straws (to prevent product displacement)
Lip plumpers or old lip products
Extreme heat including saunas, hot tubs, and prolonged sun exposure
When you do return to lip products, use brand-new products with clean applicators only to reduce the risk of irritation or infection.
What’s Normal (and What’s Not)
It’s completely normal to experience:
Swelling
Bruising
Redness
Small lumps or unevenness
Tenderness
These effects can take up to 2–4 weeks to fully settle and soften.
However, the following symptoms are not normal and require immediate attention:
Blisters
Increasing or severe pain
Itching that worsens
Pale skin or abnormal color changes
If you experience any of these, call our office right away at 509-443-4622. If you have reached us after hours, we have an emergency number listed for these rare complications.
Supporting Recovery with Alastin’s INhance Post-Injection Serum

Key ingredients may include:
TriHex Technology®

A form of hyaluronic acid that boosts hydration and plumpness while supporting overall comfort.

Long-Lasting Results & Lip Goals
Lip filler results typically last 6–12 months or longer, depending on your body and lifestyle. If you’re working toward specific lip goals, we recommend spacing treatments 3-6 months apart to allow the product to fully settle before adding more.
And finally — enjoy your beautiful new lips. Soft, hydrated, and naturally enhanced is always our goal.
If you have any questions, concerns, or want to plan your next visit, our team is always here for you.
